This Privacy Policy describes how Human Rephraser Pro (the "Extension") handles information when you install or use it. We value your privacy and aim to be fully transparent about what data is used and how.

1. Plain Language Summary 💡

  • We do not collect or sell personal data.
  • The Extension requests only the minimum permissions required to function.
  • Your settings and usage stats are stored locally in your browser only.
  • Text you rephrase is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI's API — not to our servers.
  • Your OpenAI API key is stored locally in your browser and never transmitted to us.

2. What Information We Do Not Collect 🚫

We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

  • Personal information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
  • The content of pages you visit or your browsing history
  • Text you select or rephrase
  • Your OpenAI API key
  • Cookies or tracking identifiers

We do not use analytics platforms, trackers, or advertising networks of any kind.

3. Permissions and Local Access ⚙️

To provide its core functionality, the Extension uses the following Chrome permissions:

Permission Purpose
activeTab Temporarily grants access to the active tab when you click the extension or use the context menu. Used only to read the text you explicitly select and to insert the rephrased result.
contextMenus Creates a right-click menu entry — "Rephrase with Human Rephraser" — for quick access when you select text.
scripting Injects small scripts to read selected text and to insert or copy the rephrased output. Scripts execute only when you initiate an action.
storage Stores your preferences locally (e.g., theme, model, custom prompt, API key). Data stays on your device and is never uploaded to any server.
host_permissions
api.openai.com		 Required to send rephrasing requests directly from your browser to OpenAI's Chat Completions API (/v1/chat/completions) and to validate your API key (/v1/models). No other hosts are contacted. All requests use your own API key — no data passes through our servers.
Note: All actions are initiated by you. The Extension does not silently read page content or run continuous background processes that monitor your browsing.

4. External Processing — OpenAI API 🤝

When you rephrase text, it is sent directly from your browser to the OpenAI API (https://api.openai.com) using your own API key. This means:

  • Your text is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Your API key is stored only in your browser's local Chrome storage — never on our servers.
  • We do not proxy, log, or intercept any API requests or responses.

Always review the privacy terms of any external AI provider you use.

5. Data Retention & Security 🛡️

Data Retention

  • The Extension stores only non-sensitive user preferences and local usage statistics in Chrome storage. These never leave your device.
  • Any retention or logging of rephrased text by OpenAI is governed entirely by OpenAI's policy.

Security

  • Privacy-first design: minimal permissions, no remote data collection.
  • Settings stored in Chrome storage are protected by Chrome's own security model.
  • The Extension's source is available for inspection in the downloaded package.

6. Children

The Extension is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to this Policy & Contact

Policy Updates

We may update this policy occasionally. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Significant changes will be communicated via the extension's release notes where feasible.
