1. Who We Are

SmartiTools (smartitools.com) is a free online tools platform. We provide browser-based utilities including character counters, QR code generators, typing speed tests and more — all free, all in your browser.

When this policy says "we", "us" or "SmartiTools", it refers to the owners and operators of smartitools.com.

2. What We Collect

We collect the minimum amount of data required to run the service.

If you sign up (optional):

Your email address — to notify you about new tools and updates
Your IP address — hashed and used only for rate limiting (spam prevention)
Date and time of signup

If you submit a suggestion or feedback:

Your name (optional — only if you choose to provide it)
Your email (optional — only if you want a reply)
The message you write
Which tool page you submitted from
Your IP address — for rate limiting only

Automatically collected (all visitors):

Pages visited and time of visit (no personal data, no cookies)
Browser type and screen size (from your browser's User-Agent header)

Tools do not collect your input. Whatever you type into our tools (text for character counting, JSON data, invoice details, etc.) stays entirely in your browser. We never receive, store or process it on our servers.

3. How We Use It

We use the data we collect for the following purposes only:

Email notifications — to let you know when new tools or features launch (only if you signed up)
Responding to feedback — to reply to suggestions or bug reports you submit
Spam prevention — IP-based rate limiting to protect our forms
Usage analytics — to understand which tools are most popular so we can improve the site

We do not use your data for:

Advertising or marketing to third parties
Profiling or automated decision-making
Any purpose not listed above

4. How We Store It

Data is stored in a secured MySQL database on our hosting server. Access is restricted to authorised personnel only.

We retain signup emails for as long as you remain subscribed. Feedback submissions are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted automatically. Anonymised page view data is kept indefinitely for analytics purposes.

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not store plaintext IP addresses — they are hashed before storage and used only for rate limiting.

5. Cookies

We use a minimal number of cookies:

Theme preference — stores your dark/light mode choice in localStorage. This never leaves your browser.
No tracking cookies — we do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel or any third-party tracking cookies.

You can clear your browser's localStorage at any time through your browser settings. This will reset your theme preference to dark mode.

6. Third-Party Services

We load the following third-party resources:

Font Awesome (cdnjs.cloudflare.com) — icons. No tracking. Privacy policy →
Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com) — the Inter typeface. Google may log your IP when serving the font. Privacy policy →

We do not share your personal data with any third party. We do not sell, rent or trade email addresses or any other user data.

7. Your Rights (GDPR & Privacy Rights)

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data
Deletion — ask us to delete your data entirely ("right to be forgotten")
Unsubscribe — opt out of emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email we send
Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
Objection — object to our processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@smartitools.com. We will respond within 48 hours and fulfil all valid requests within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

SmartiTools is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If you have signed up, we will notify you by email of any material changes.

Continued use of SmartiTools after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
